Meet your representatives
My name is Felicity Johnson and I am seeking re election on the Woodend School Board of Trustees. I have two children currently at Woodend in the Te Hapua and Te Awa syndicates and have served on the Board for 18 months. During this time I have established good rapport with my fellow Board members and many individuals in the wider Woodend and North Canterbury community. Woodend School is blessed with a tremendously supportive community, and talented and passionate teachers, entrenched with strong values. The governance role of the Board is about ensuring these great things remain, but also allowing the school to move with the times; to continue to grow and recalibrate as necessary equipping our children with the skills to become independent, life-long learners. My primary aims as a trustee are to ensure that the quality of education at Woodend is maintained at the highest standard and that the staff have all the resources they need to accomplish this goal. I believe strongly in the concept of local community schools and feel they should reflect the local spirit and be easily accessible to communities; nurturing their future young leaders in all aspects of life. I believe that strong pedagogy, high-quality teaching and learning, and inclusive, supportive leadership at all levels of the school along with high teacher morale and a Board that is supportive of these factors is integral to Woodend’s success and overall sense of Hauroa. I genuinely enjoy being able to contribute to my children’s education by being part of the Board of Trustees and believe my passion and belief in the future of the school and community makes me an ideal representative.
My name is Mark Paterson and I am standing for the Woodend School Board. I am married to Rachael and have 3 daughters – Ella, Molly and Lucy. Molly is at Kaiapoi High School and Lucy is year 8 at Woodend. I have previously served on the Board of Trustees for 3 terms, holding the positions of finance and vice chairman and am seeking re-election once more.
I am employed as a Business Development Manager in the transport and logistics industry. I have vast experience in many aspects of management and these skills are very beneficial in a governance role.
I have lived in the Waikuku – Woodend district for most of my life and have been involved in many groups and activities. Currently I am the Chairperson of the Woodend Community Association and the Gladstone Park Advisory Group. I also served for 9 years as the President of the Woodend Rugby Club and I am a life member and patron.
I believe that the board’s role is to help guide the schools’s management in enabling each child to learn to their best of their ability in a safe and caring environment. An integral part of this is strong governance and community engagement. As the face of education is continually changing more now than ever before with the modern learning environment, it is crucially important that school retains its continuity of education with as little as possible disruption, whilst catering for the different learning styles of individual children.
I look forward to working again with the staff and management to provide the best learning environment for our local children.
My name is Daniel Roberts and my wife, Raina, and I have lived in Woodend for over ten years with our one-eyed Beagle, Molly, and two wonderful children, Ariana (12) and Kahu (9), who both attend Woodend School.
I am a born and bred, proud Cantabrian, a self-confessed 'petrol-head' and dedicated family man.
For the past 20 years I have worked in various sales roles within the FMCG/Grocery trade and I am currently an Account Manager for Unilever dealing directly with Foodstuffs South Island. My experience in the corporate sector has allowed me to develop key skills I believe will be useful as a Board of Trustees member. I am an excellent communicator, adept at data analysis, have strong problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail. My friends and colleagues would confirm that I am personable, honest, reliable, thrive under pressure and work hard to achieve results.
I genuinely love living in North Canterbury and I am invested in supporting our local community. Our children are busy and active members in local swimming, sports, dance, karate and performing arts groups, including Woodend netball and cricket clubs. Over the past four years I have proudly coached the Woodend Wizards cricket team and have thoroughly enjoyed helping the kids develop their skills and confidence.
I firmly believe that Woodend School is the heart of our community. As parents we work hard to help our children develop core values, essential life-skills and provide emotional support while our school staff help to nurture their minds, providing a safe and welcoming place to learn and grow in confidence.
We are fortunate to have caring, dedicated, passionate and qualified staff at Woodend School but, to help them achieve the very best for our children, they need the support of a highly effective Board who will provide strong strategic guidance, ensuring the school continues to meet the needs of our wider community. In today’s modern society, I appreciate that it is a challenging time for parents and schools and would relish the opportunity to utilise my skills to help Woodend School succeed.
I am a member of the current Board of Trustees and have been for approximately 2 years. I have 2 children at Woodend School , Cara in Te Awa and Kees in Te Hapua . I have enjoyed my time on the board thus far, have learnt a lot and find being involved in the governance of the school both interesting and rewarding. I enjoy the positive relationships I have formed with the other members of the board both teachers and parents alike. I am a Registered Nurse and work locally in a medical centre as well as working for the community outreach service providing B4School checks. I feel there is more I can offer in my role and would love to be re elected for another term.
